# How building works and how long it takes

A run has three parts: a short conversation about your idea, the build itself, and the result. Each run costs credits, see [How credits work](/support/billing-credits-and-plans/how-credits-work).

## 1. The concept

After you click **Build**, Studs may ask a few questions about your idea, up to five. Answer the ones you care about or click **Skip to the concepts**. Then it shows you a few concept cards. Pick one, ask for a different angle, or let Studs choose.

You have five minutes to answer each question or pick. If you step away, Studs makes a sensible choice and keeps going, so your run is never stuck waiting on you.

## 2. The build

Studs designs the game, builds the world and writes the scripts. This is the long part: **a typical run takes about an hour**, and a run that reaches 150 minutes is stopped automatically. You do not need to keep the tab open.

Rather than waiting around, add your email under Account and make sure the finished-run notification is turned on. We will email you the moment your game is ready, and again if the run is paused and needs you.

## 3. The result

When the run is done you get 3D previews of what was built, and the publish menu appears. To play the game, [publish it to Roblox](/support/publishing-to-roblox/publish-your-game-to-roblox) and open it there, or download the `.rbxl` and [open it in Roblox Studio](/support/getting-started/do-i-need-roblox-studio). There is no playable preview inside Studs.
